A wind farm in the Sound disrespects lost fishermen

Cape Cod Times, www.capecodonline.com 3 March 2011

As the niece of several commercial fishermen who drowned in Nantucket Sound when their fishing vessels went down in ferocious storms, the daughter of a fishing captain who died there, and as an author writing about the many fishing vessels and men who were lost there, I consider this area to be a sacred part of the sea.

The idea of a large commercial enterprise intruding upon their resting places is repugnant and disrespectful to their lives and memories. Losing lives to the sea is particularly tragic as there is no place to visit loved ones’ remains. These waters are a memorial to these men and their lives which will rest here forever.

I hope others agree and write their lawmakers, so this point of view will be taken into consideration as our elected officials pursue the controversial Cape Wind project.
