Wind farm proposal unveiled

Proposals to build a wind farm will be unveiled at a public exhibition next week.

Power company SSE Renewables is looking to put up turbines at Woolfox airfield site, on the A1, north of Stamford.

Although the plans are at an early stage, the company is looking to install up to 22 wind turbines with a maximum tip height of 135m. Each would have the capacity to generate up to 3.3 MW

The firm has not yet submitted a planning application to Rutland County Council for the wind farm . It is conducting environmental tests and has lodged an application to put up a temporary meteorological mast along with a report stating how it will be conducting these tests.

Staff will be running a public consultation at Greetham Valley Hotel, Golf and Conference Centre between Tuesday and Thursday next week.

Project manager, Paul Carvey said: “We are at the very early stages of carrying out environmental investigations in the area, but the findings so far have been encouraging.

“The public exhibitions will be a great opportunity for the local community to find out more about the proposals and to let us know their views on the project.

“I would encourage as many people as possible from the surrounding area take the chance to come along and meet us.”

The company has been looking at the site since early last year and technical tests have show that the site could hold up to 22 turbines.

Environmental tests will look at the landscape, ecology, ornithology, aviation and noise.

County council leader and Greetham ward member Coun Roger Begy (Con) said: “As ward member, I have been in touch with all parishes regarding this issue.

“There is a great deal of interest and some concern about these proposals. People will be visiting the exhibition at Greetham Valley and then the parish councils will no doubt be meeting to discuss the issues with ward members for their parishes.”

Opening times are Tuesday, 4pm-9pm, Wednesday, 10am-2pm and 4pm-9pm and Thursday, 10am-2pm.

l Applications for turbines have been lodged with South Kesteven District Council by Lark Energy, Bourne.

It has applied for a turbine on the gable of a demonstration house in Falcon Way, Bourne, and another at the Spitfire Industrial Estate, Market Deeping.
