SOCME expresses delight with denial of wind farm on Mynydd y Gwair

Save Our Common Mountain Environment

SOCME wishes to express its ecstatic delight in the decision by the Welsh Assembly NOT to grant planning permission for the Wind Farm on Mynydd y Gwair.

It comes after seven years of fighting to preserve this outstanding area of upland common.

SOCME would like to thank all who have supported the group financially, physically and morally.

We hope we can now draw a line under this battle and return to our lives.

It goes without mention that this decision sends a clear signal to NPower and any other wind farm development company both now and in the future that Mynydd y Gwair is NOT a suitable place to site a wind Farm.

In the words of R.S. Thomas, “In Wales there are jewels to gather, but with the eye only”.

Many thanks to all
Regards
Glyn Morgan
SOCME Chairman

Note.

Save Our Common Mountain Environment, known as “SOCME”, was set up in 2003 to do exactly as the name applies.

It is a community group made up of people who live and work around Mynydd y Gwair; it has gathered tremendous support in the last seven years both locally nationally and internationally, as it tries to give the argument to save these beautiful surroundings and preserve them for posterity.

Note from Country Guardian.

Country Guardian congratulates and thanks all who helped achieve this hard won victory in the long fight to save Mynydd y Gwair.

Glyn Morgan, steadfast and true, has been a model chairman of SOCME for the past seven years. He has inspired and united his whole community and drawn support from hundreds of others who care about the beauty of Wales and the world.

We also remember with deep gratitude, the late Mal Davies, brilliant webmaster of SOCME, and Jan Moseley, expert on the environment, who both literally “fought to the death” to save Mynydd y Gwair.

They will never be forgotten.
