Energize Vermont, energizevermont.org 23 February 2011

Energize Vermont and the Lowell Mountains Group are hosting an event asking the Governor to experience the Lowell wind project area. See below for more details, come and support the organization and Vermont-scale energy solutions!

1PM Thursday 2/24/11
State House steps, Montpelier, VT

On Thursday at 1PM from the State House steps in Montpelier residents concerned about the Governor’s recent support of the Lowell wind project will join together to send the message to Gov. Shumlin, “Come visit!” The residents believe that the potential impacts from the project can only be understood by experiencing the local businesses, lives, environment and properties put at risk.

Speakers at the event will offer to be tour guides for the Governor, and address many of the characteristics of the area that are likely to be impacted by the project. A diverse group of Vermonters are expected to send the message, including:

Jim Blair, Eden Dog Sledding – Eden Dog Sledding is one of the many businesses in the Lowell area that relies on tourism and the wilderness experience. Mr. Blair will be present with a dog sledding team, and the Governor will be welcomed to enjoy a ride.

Sterling College Students – Sterling College students will be on hand to address the impacts the project will have on their environmental educational programs that utilize the Lowell ridgeline.

Lowell Mountains Group – Members of the Lowell Mountains Group plan to discuss the things they believe the Governor should take note of when visiting the Lowell project area.

Energize Vermont – Organization members will suggest proactive ways the State can advance our energy portfolio while mitigating impacts from electricity generation to the character of Vermont.

And more – The news conference will include an opportunity for Vermonters concerned with the project to send their own message to the Governor.

The event will take place at 1PM from the 2nd Level of the State House steps in Montpelier, VT.
