Maui part of Big Wind environmental impact survey

The island of Maui may be the next sought-after location for the Big Wind project.

While attention has focused on Lanai and Molokai as hosts to wind farms totaling 400 megawatts of energy that, if completed, would power Oahu via an undersea cable, Maui remains on the table as a future possibility.

“Down the road, it is the intent to move to Maui with the cable and, ultimately, to the Big Island,” said Hawaiian Electric Co. spokesman Peter Rosegg.
