Recall election slated in Town of Forest

The controversy over a proposed wind energy system in the Town of Forest could help blow the three incumbent town board members out of office.

A recall election is slated for Tuesday, Feb. 15, in Forest to determine if new board members will take over.

The recall is the result of a group of Town of Forest residents who circulated a petition to remove the current board. The petition included the signatures of 93 town residents. A total of 50 signatures was required for a recall election to be conducted.

The group’s main issue with the current board is their approval of a wind project proposed by Emerging Energies LLC, which calls for some 39 turbines to be installed on parcels scattered throughout the township.

Incumbent Town Chairman Roger Swanepoel will face challenger Jaime Junker to fill the town’s top spot.

Incumbent supervisors Douglas Karau and Carlton Cress will be on the Feb. 15 ballot along with challengers Patrick Scepurek and Rick Steinberger.
