Turbines have opposition in West Lincoln

WEST LINCOLN – About 60 people protested at a recent meeting at South Lincoln High School that was hosted by IPC Energy to provide information about wind power, particularly about provincial regulations under the Green Energy Act.

“We’re not opposed to green energy,” said Caistor Centre resident Cam Pritchard. “We have to move forward.”

Pritchard is the co-chair of the West Lincoln Wind Action Group which is opposing wind turbines in West Lincoln.

He believes the province should be turning toward solar power and not wind power for energy needs.

“These large turbines, I think we’re barking up the wrong tree,” he said.

Pritchard and other wind turbine opponents are anxiously awaiting a decision by a panel of judges on a law suit by Ontario resident Ian Hanna. He is fighting the introduction of wind turbines in Prince Edward County on the basis that because there are possible health risks associated with wind turbines, that health studies should be done to determine whether they are safe. If Hanna’s suit, which was heard in late January, is successful, than no more wind turbines can be built until such studies are completed.
