Queniborough wind turbine plan is turned down

BBC News, www.bbc.co.uk 4 February 2011

Plans for four 126m (413 ft) wind turbines near a Leicestershire village have been rejected.

Scottish Power Renewables has been looking at plans for a site near Queniborough for two years, but has faced opposition from some residents.

Charnwood Borough Council has now turned down the scheme, saying it would have too great an impact on the area.

The company said it was disappointed and would study the reasons for the decision before deciding on an appeal.

Campaigners who objected to the turbines said they were too close to houses and would be out of place in such a rural setting.

A spokesman for Scottish Power Renewables said: “We take our responsibility in producing renewable energy very seriously.

“We still feel the application is extremely strong and believe it is a good development for the area.”
