Staffordshire council rejects Brineton wind mast plan

BBC News, news.bbc.co.uk 2 February 2011

Plans for a wind speed testing mast near Stafford have been rejected.

Dozens of protestors attended a planning meeting to hear South Staffordshire District Council vote unanimously to reject the proposals.

The 70m (230ft) mast is part of larger plans by Wind Prospect Developments who want to build six turbines in Brineton.

But people living nearby claim the site is not suitable for a wind farm, and would knock thousands off the price of their homes.

Paul Grimshaw, development manager at Wind Prospect, said: “We are disappointed with the refusal of the met mast application. We will now wait for the decision notice from the Local Planning Authority, which will give more information on why the application was refused.

“Until we have that information, we are unable to determine whether to appeal this decision.”
