Windmills are only efficient at killing birds

Shore News Today, www.shorenewstoday.com 1 February 2011

Sen. Whelan must be either mad or set for big profits to sponsor a bill putting gigantic wind turbines on New Jersey piers. Does he really think beach and pier goers really want to witness point blank kamikaze-like birds and recreate in their remnants? Imagine taking a walk on the beach or pier and having to step around the fresh blood and guts of countless seagulls.

If private companies want to build inefficient windmills on private land away from the public without taxpayers footing the bills they should be allowed, but overtop of New Jersey’s beach and ocean is just insane.

The Board of Public Utilities forces electric companies to pay about $750 to windmill owners every time they produce $60 worth of electricity and then add the difference to our electric bills. Without this mandate there would be no market for windmills. This is the case with the ACUA wind farm. Our electric bills will continue to rise if the Offshore Wind Economic Development Act ever comes to existence. It should appear on our increased electricity bills as the Offshore Wind Tax or the Sweeny-Whelan-Christie Tax.
