Group fears wind turbine dominated landscape

ABC Western Victoria, www.abc.net.au 1 February 2011

The Southern Grampians Landscape Guardians Group fears there will one day be wind turbines as far as the eye can see in the Penshurst and Macarthur area.

President Keith Staff attended a community meeting to discuss the proposed 220-turbine Penshurst wind farm last night.

He says the plans have not considered the cumulative effect the farm will have with the approved Macarthur wind farm and proposed Willatook facility.

He says residents will be swamped by 550 wind turbines.

“You’ll see nothing from viewpoints that we have here, from your extinct volcanoes and beautiful rolling, stony rise which are the lava flows. All of these proposed [turbines] will be in that same area, covering a massive area. You’ll see nothing but wind towers for 30, 40, 50 kilometres,” he said.
