Onerous bill on wind turbines

Many unsuspecting homeowners in Berkshire County are soon going to be negatively impacted by industrial size wind turbines being sited too close to their homes, and should the governor get passage of the proposed wind turbine siting reform bill, those numbers will surely increase.
Take the time to Google “wind turbine syndrome” and you’ll find numerous cases of the negative health effects caused by living near such machines in the U.S. and around the world. And once the turbines are your new neighbor your home’s value just dropped precipitously and you might not even be able to sell it.
Realtors across the country and in Canada report that losses of between 20 and 40 percent in the value of homes located within 2 to 3 miles of wind turbines is common. The presence of nearby turbines is often the deciding factor in would-be buyers looking elsewhere. And homes a “mere” few thousand feet away often can’t be sold. There are cases of people actually having to abandon their homes.
So while wind energy sounds great, improperly sited turbines can have disastrous effects both on people’s health and their pocketbook. That’s why you should tell your representatives to vote against the wind turbine siting reform bill. It’s an onerous bill that takes away local control of siting and will lead to more people suffering.
