Forum on Turkey Hill turbine proposal Feb. 7

Cohasset – Steve Sloan and other representatives of The Trustees of Reservations will present their proposal to build a wind turbine on Turkey Hill at a forum titled, “Moving Toward Sustainability: The Turkey Hill Wind Turbine” at the Abbey Center on Feb. 7, at 7 p.m. As the proposed turbine site is located in Cohasset near the Hingham town line, the Abbey Center site at 16 Hull Street is an appropriate location for Cohasset and Hingham residents along Hull and East Streets to participate in TTOR’s presentation addressing this project. REACH/Hingham, Responsible Energy Alternatives Coalition of Hingham, sponsor of this forum, has secured the February date for this meeting after several months of planning. In recent months at its open meetings, the Cohasset Planning Board has discussed TTOR’s proposal and examined related engineering data at length. The Board has now closed its hearings as it begins deliberations on the TTOR application.

During several public meetings the Trustees have reviewed their rationale for building the turbine, as well as questions about the turbine’s visual and audible effects, the construction process, and its impact on the Turkey Hill conservation area. Such matters will be discussed at the scheduled meeting. The Trustees are intent on reaching out to residents in the Route 228 corridor along East and Hull Streets close to the Route 3-A intersection. This forum will afford these residents, as well as those others in the Hull-Hingham-Cohasset area, an additional opportunity to learn about the proposal’s particulars and to share their interests, concerns, and experiences. Everyone is welcome.

As recently as Oct. 27, 2010, REACH/Hingham sponsored a well-attended forum on TTOR’s proposal at the Hingham Public Library, one of the many alternative-energy forums REACH has presented for Hingham residents over the years. REACH, the sponsor of this forum at the Abbey Center, endorses TTOR’s proposal.
