Wind farm put on hold

Planners in East Lindsey have welcomed the news that plans for a £100 million wind farm substation in the district have been put on hold.

Developer RWE npower Renewables had been consulting on three possible 40-acre sites, which would connect offshore turbines, set to be built 33km off the Lincolnshire coast as part of the £3.6 billion Triton Knoll project, to the electricity network.

On Wednesday, the firm announced it was reconsidering the substation location, after being told by National Grid that it might be placed better elsewhere.

Councillor Neil Cooper, portfolio holder for planning at East Lindsey District Council, said: “I’m very pleased that all of the hard work, which has taken place in partnership with the community groups and the district council, has made RWE npower renewable reconsider their decision to promote the substation.

“Clearly, this is an interim position and we remain concerned that this matter may raise its head again, particularly at a time when National Grid is still considering a potential new power line through the district.

“Until RWE npower renewables releases the information regarding the connection to the Grid for the Triton Knoll Wind Farm we have to remain prepared and vigilant.”
