Turbines plan is a disaster

Last Tuesday was a very sad day for residents of our village, Glyncorrwg.
Councillors on the Neath Port Talbot Planning Committee voted by 17 votes to 15 not to object to the proposed Pen y Cymoedd Wind Farm for 79 turbines each 475 feet high … just a little shorter than Blackpool Tower!
This will be disastrous for Glyncorrwg.
Our hills will be dominated by huge turbines which will have an overbearing visual impact on the people who live here.
Our objections included the destruction of up to a million trees, the loss of thousands of tons of peat, noise from turbines, the effect on health and the dangers of turbines to bikers, walkers, birds and wildlife.
Our campaign was supported by the vast majority of the community, our MP Hywel Francis, our AM Brian Gibbons, our GP, and the Glyncorrwg Ponds Development, which brings in thousands of bike riders to Glyncorrwg.
Our Councillor Glyn Rawlings felt the proposal should not be supported and that there should be a public inquiry.
In spite of such strong opposition, the councillors voted by a very small majority not to object to the proposal. Our community is upset and angry.
What a price this community will pay so that renewable targets can be met!
The proposal now goes to Rhondda Cynon Taf. We hope their councillors will support local people over big business and object to this horrendous proposal.
