Turbine project to see open house redo

Orangeville Banner, www.orangeville.com 19 January 2011

Proponents of the Whittington Wind Project in Amaranth have agreed to essentially begin the public consultation process over again, at the request of township council.

“We felt it was highly inappropriate for a company to hold a public meeting outside of the effected municipality,” Mayor Don MacIver said, referring to the October open house held at the Orangeville fairgrounds in Mono. “As far as we’re concerned, this is the first public meeting that’s being held.”

The meeting is set for next Tuesday (Jan. 25), between 5:30 and 8 p.m., at Amaranth Recreation Hall (374028, 6th Line).

An open house format, anyone interested in the project will have an opportunity to review what’s proposed, ask questions of Mississauga-based wpd Canada Corporation and provide feedback.

If approved as-is, the initiative would see three wind turbines, with a combined maximum capacity of 6.9 MW, erected between Mono-Amaranth Townline and the 2nd Line of Amaranth, north of 15 Sideroad.
