Rural residents fear proposed energy projects

Opponents of several proposed energy projects are holding a community meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday in southeastern San Diego County. Some property owners are worried the projects could affect their health and property values.

At least four energy projects are proposed for an area of southeastern San Diego County and just across the border in Mexico.

The projects include two wind farms, a new electrical substation and at least three new power transmission lines.

Donna Tisdale, who lives in Boulevard and is with the Protect Our Communities Foundation, said the rural landscape she calls home may change significantly if all the energy projects are built.

Tisdale is also worried about how wind turbines may affect the health of those living nearby.

“There can be some very severe health side effects from infrasonic and low-frequency noise that emanates from these turbines,” said Tisdale.

Tisdale said speakers at the meeting will also talk about the proposed energy projects and how they may affect property values and the quality of life in the area.

The meeting is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Boulevard Fire Station.
