Controversial wind farm substation plans on hold

Controversial plans for a wind farm substation in East Lindsey, which could lead to 125m-high pylons marching across the Boston Borough skyline, are on hold.
RWE npower renewables is developing Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm, in the North Sea, 33km from the Lincolnshire coast.
An onshore electrical substation would be required to connect the wind farm to the National Grid and three sites in East Lindsey had been under consideration.
Concern had then been raised the substation would be connected to the electricity network at Bicker Fen, the nearest hub, through 125m-high pylons.
However, National Grid has now informed RWE npower renewables that they have identified ‘possible new and alternative options’ for the connection location, which ‘could lie outside the East Lindsey area’.
No word has been given on the alternative options as yet, and as Bicker Fen is part of Boston Borough, rather than East Lindsey, it waits to be seen how suitable it may be to another site.
RWE npower has stated, though, given this ‘new information and uncertainty’ it has decided to put work on the substation application and consultation on hold.
