Wind farm plans handed to councils

Furious protestors are urging residents to speak out about plans for a wind farm on land near Cridling Stubbs, Womersley and Knottingley.

A planning application for eight 125m high wind turbines on the Darrington Quarry site has been submitted to Wakefield and Selby Councils by Waste Recycling Group (WRG) and now members of the Cridling Stubbs and Womersley Action Group are urging householders to send written objections to the proposal to the councils.

Robert Klaasen, action group chairman, said: “Villagers only have 21 days from the planning documents being submitted to write their letters. We have got to object, we need to stop this wind farm.

“Our website is now set up, www.stopwindfarm-at-darrington.co.uk, and we have distributed about 1,000 leaflets to let people know. We are going to read through the planning documents to discover the areas we object against for all the reasons we can come up with.”

Environmental and health and safety issues are just a few of the concerns the group have about the wind turbines – one of which they claim will be just 600m from the nearest property.

A spokesman from WRG said: “A planning application and environmental statement for Waste Recycling Group’s limestone quarry wind energy proposal has been submitted to the planning departments of both Selby and Wakefield Councils.

“WRG has since been informed that Selby Council is seeking clarification as to whether this planning application should be considered by North Yorkshire County Council instead.

“WRG looks forward to receiving clarification on the matter and working closely with the planning department which will take the application forward.”

A spokesman from Wakefield Council confirmed that the application had been received on December 22 and could be viewed on the website. Anyone wanting to object can forward comments to the council, quoting planning application number 10/02488/FUL.
