Proposed regulations would allow wind farms in parts of city of Green Bay

Green Bay planners are recommending new wind farm regulations that would allow the energy-producing systems in commercial and industrial areas of the city.
The Green Bay City Council is scheduled to take up the issue at its Tuesday night meeting.
Although state regulators control large wind farms in Wisconsin, local communities have the authority to set restrictions on those generating 100 kilowatts or less.
The city Plan Commission has recommended limiting wind turbines to 170 feet in height and requiring setbacks from neighboring properties equal to a turbine’s height.
Under the proposed new rules, wind turbines also could be allowed in some residential or mixed-use areas with special city permits.
