LM Wind Power laying off 150 employees at Grand Forks plant

LM Wind Power is laying off 150 employees at its Grand Forks plant.

The company says the layoffs are associated with low orders for wind energy components and a lack of government support for renewable energy technology.

An LM employee says workers found out Tuesday about the layoffs and that individual meetings with supervisors are being held Wednesday.

In a news release the company says it is optimistic that the need for wind energy will increase.

But those laid off say it could be hard to make ends meet.

“I have never been unemployed in the time that I have been working. I started working since I was a teenager and I have always been working somewhere so I’m probably going to start applying for places,” said Eve Bogert, an employee affected by the layoffs.

In a written statement released Wednesday, Vice President for North America LM Wind Power Randy Fox said the company remains committed to workers. “The toughest thing is the immediate impact on some of our employees, who have been instrumental in driving our strong performance throughout last year,” Fox said.
