Questions raised about wind turbine

www.southcoasttoday.com 10 January 2011

What happened to the Town of Fairhaven’s announced plans to put two commercial-sized wind turbines near their waste water treatment plant?

Is the wind turbine project going forward after the length of time the commercial venture was stalled by the growing number of opponents in Fairhaven?

How did the contractor who bid the Fairhaven wind turbine contract become the contractor under the Green Communities Act after he abandoned a special permit? In other words, does the original bidder for a wind turbine contract become the contractor forever?

My understanding was the original contractor has never installed a commercial wind turbine. The question then becomes is a wind turbine contractor who never installed a wind turbine now the consultant for a wind turbine project in Fairhaven?

This is a concern for not only Fairhaven residents but residents of Mattapoisett. The Falmouth, Cape Cod wind turbines can be seen off in the distance from the end of my street in Mattapoisett and I understand there may be plans to place larger wind turbines in Fairhaven. If this is true, the Mattapoisett residents who border Fairhaven should receive some sort of notification.

The big question is who, what, when, where and how is this project going forward? How is it being paid for? What is the abutter notification? Are the residents of Fairhaven aware of budget expenses? Will this end up like the Dartmouth wind turbines?
