Exhibition of plans for larger turbines at Calliachar wind farm

Details of a plan to increase the turbine size at a controversial Perthshire wind farm will be outlined to the public at an exhibition next week.

Scottish & Southern Energy (SSE) is hoping to increase the height of the 14 turbines at Calliachar, near Aberfeldy, which already have consent.

To allow people to view the details of the proposal they have organised the exhibition in Amulree Village Hall on Wednesday, January 19, from 2pm until 7pm.

Noel Cummins, SSE’s community liaison officer for the project, said, “We invite members of the public to come and learn more about our proposal to increase the height of the consented turbines at Calliachar.

The proposal is to increase the tower height from 59m to 63.5m and the rotor diameter from 82m to 93m.

“This means the overall blade tip height would increase from 100m to 109.8m.”

He added, “For those unable to attend we will put information on the project page at www.sse.com or I will be happy to provide additional information if I am contacted directly (noel.cummins@sse.com).”

Mr Cummins stressed that all written representations must be sent to this address and not to Perth and Kinross Council. An opportunity to make representations to the council will exist when a formal planning application is made.

Among those already calling for the council to reject the plan when an application is lodged with the council is MSP Murdo Fraser.

He has asked councillors to stand firm over their reservations about the project.
