North Kingstown considers moratorium on new wind turbines

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI – The North Kingstown Town Council will discuss a moratorium on new wind turbines at its next meeting Monday night.

The proposed moratorium would not apply to the controversial proposal to build a 427-foot wind turbine at Stamp Farm, on Route 2. That application, now before the North Kingstown Planning Commission, was submitted under the wind energy ordinance passed by the council on Sept. 27.

It also would not apply to a second 427-foot turbine at the North Kingstown Green housing development, which has already been approved by the town.

Elizabeth Dolan, president of the Town Council, said a moratorium would allow the council a chance to temporarily halt additional new applications while it re-examined the town’s ordinance governing turbines.
