NEW BRITAIN – The Connecticut Siting Council will take time to accept public comment and explore the sites and surrounding neighborhoods where wind turbine projects are proposed in Prospect and Colebrook.

At a meeting Thursday, the siting council took up petitions by BNE Energy Inc. of West Hartford to erect wind turbines in the two communities. It set a field review and two hearings next month for the Prospect proposal, but it did not set a hearing for Colebrook because of a 30-day window to notify towns and others once a petition is received.

In Prospect, BNE wants to put up two turbines, each measuring 462 feet from the base to the tip of the blade, at 178 New Haven Road. In Colebrook, the company wants to erect six turbines – three on Flagg Hill Road and three on Rock Hall Road.

Daniel F. Caruso, siting council chairman, said the council is not required to hold a hearing, but he believes it is appropriate for the Prospect proposal.
