Wind farm project back on table

The Sackville Tribune Post, www.sackvilletribunepost.com 5 January 2011

A wind energy company that has proposed a 43-turbine wind farm near Aulac is returning to the area this March to discuss the project with local residents and town officials.

Bonnie Swift, Sackville’s director of economic development, said representatives from Acciona Wind Energy will be making a public presentation on March 14 during town council’s monthly meeting scheduled for that evening.

She said the company has met all the environmental conditions for the project and is now ready to begin the next stage of their project.

Acciona Wind Energy – billed as a world leader in the renewable energy sector – is expected to build, own and operate the 64.5-megawatt operation in Aulac and will sell the energy to NB Power through a 25-year contract. The wind farm will supply enough power to meet the electricity needs of about 10,000 homes.

Acciona began work on a 49.5-megawatt wind farm project in Lameque this past year.

Meanwhile, Swift said Lahave Renewables is also expected to make a presentation to council, this one on March 7 during council’s discussion meeting.

Lahave Renewables has been active in renewable energy development since 1994, working in Atlantic Canada and across North America. From the company’s base in Nova Scotia, Lahave Renewables helps assist companies identify and develop new opportunities and markets.
