Big turbine proposed for Milwaukee’s port?

By Katherine Keller, The Bay View Compass, bayviewcompass.com 5 January 2011

Eric Reinelt, Port Director, City of Milwaukee said today that he was approached by Matt Howard, Director of Milwaukee’s Office of Environmental Sustainability about the possibility of siting a small wind turbine on the port’s land. Reinelt said that he was interested in the project but before he would proceed, wanted input from area residents.

Reinelt said that because the port is situated near the lake where there is good wind and because the port possesses a parcel of land large enough to accommodate a small turbine, that the port is potentially interested in the project. He said that there are two small turbines that will are being considered – slightly larger than the turbines situated in the lawn of Milwuakee’s Discovery Museum.

Details about the siting of the turbines and turbine specs will be presented to the public Thursday, January 13, at the South Shore Park Pavilion at 6pm.
