Bayshore groups, freeholders oppose wind turbine

independent.gmnews.com

Bayshore environmental group Hazlet Area Quality of Life Alliance, the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders and several Bayshore towns are opposing plans to construct an industrial wind turbine on the Bayshore Regional Sewerage Authority’s 24- acre wastewater management plant in Union Beach. The turbine received conditional approval from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

Residents and environmental groups continue to question the public health effects of wind turbines in high-density coastal communities like those in the Bayshore. After listening to concerns from residents at a public meeting in Keyport, the freeholders unanimously passed a resolution opposing construction of the 380-foot-tall industrial wind turbine on July 8, citing concerns including health and safety, lack of protection for community roads and infrastructure, and diminished property values.
