Second attempt for egg farm wind turbine proposals

Controversial plans to build a wind turbine on an egg farm have been resubmitted.

FG Thompstone Farmers has slightly changed its proposal to build a wind turbine on land at Anslow Park Farm in Anslow, after the original plans were met by anger from nearby residents. Those plans were withdrawn in November.

The revamped proposals will see a slightly smaller turbine with a total height of 46.9m with three blades, compared to the old 48.7m twin blade turbine. It will generate 225kWh (kilowatts per hour) compared to the previous application, which would have generated 275kWh.

At the new site, which receives an average wind speed of 6.3 m/s, the turbine would generate 260,000kWh in a year.

This would be used to power the 36,000- hen business – the amount of energy it consumes in 12 months.

Any excess electricity would be sold back to the national grid.

The new plans also show that the turbine would be 410m away from the neighbouring Lount Farm – a further 30m from the original proposals.

Di Fairclough, who runs the horse business at Castle View Stud, in Lount Farm, previously complained that the old turbine was too close and that it would damage business.

In the application’s supporting documents agent Carter Jonas LLP says: “The proposed turbine would be used to create a clean, renewable and sustainable form of electricity production.

“The client (Frank Thompstone) is keen to make a contribution to offsetting his and the community’s carbon emissions and to maintain the long-term sustainability of the farm.”

Speaking to the Mail, Mr Thompstone added: “We have listened to the comments and concerns of nearby residents and we have taken them into account for this new application.

“This model is quieter than the old one, and in our application we have referenced a similar turbine used in a village project in Nottinghamshire.

“If anyone has any concerns we would like them to have a look at that.”

The village project can be viewed at www.sustainablehockerton.org. The new turbine would have a single mast with a hub height of 32.4m, and a rotor diameter of 29m.

The consultation period for the plans is open until January 12.

A decision date has not yet been set.
