The blaze was reported about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Sheriff and fire personnel were called to the scene near the intersection of Amethyst Drive and Desert View Avenue, but neither department found any evidence of arson.

A 150-foot-tall windmill went up in flames along the San Gorgonio Pass, but foul play is not suspected, a sheriff’s deputy said today.

The blaze was reported about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Sheriff and fire personnel were called to the scene near the intersection of Amethyst Drive and Desert View Avenue, but neither department found any evidence of arson.

“It looks like nothing criminal,” sheriff’s Deputy Herlinda Valenzuela said.

The windmill burned so quickly that it was completely destroyed by the time the fire department got on the scene, spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson said.

“It self-extinguished pretty quickly,” she said. “As quickly as it went up, it was down.”

Attempts were being made to contact the company that supervises the Amethyst Drive portion of the windmill farm.
