Energy firm to appeal over turbines

The battle to build three wind turbines between four local villages opened up again on a new front this week.

Energy company TCI Renewables announced on Wednesday that it was lodging an appeal against South Norfolk Council’s decision not to give it planning permission.

And TCI director Bruce Hutt told the Diss Express on Wednesday: “I don’t think people enter into appeals unless they feel they have strong grounds.”

It had been a fortnight to the day that the council planning committee earned public applause when it turned down the plan for turbines on land near Dickleburgh, Rushall, Pulham Market and Pulham St Mary.

Planning officers said it was felt the 126-metre high structures would be too dominant and have an unacceptable impact on the landscape and nearby homes.

Opposition to the proposal had united some members of the four communities under the banner of a lobby group under the name 4Villages.

South Norfolk Council had received 413 letters of objection – but there were also 38 letters of support.

The planning report said the turbines would generate enough electricity for 3,500 homes and the multi-million pound development would have an operational life of 25 years before being decommissioned.

After the meeting Mr Hutt had stressed that his company would need to examine the refusal, which then led to it notifying the council this week that it was lodging a formal objection.
