Wind turbine plan approval

The Star, www.thestar.co.uk 17 December 2010

Plans for six wind turbines at Penny Hill have been given the green light – despite a huge amount of opposition.

Banks Group has had its planning consent validated by Rotherham Council after being passed by the Government, meaning the 132 metre-high machines will be installed at the site, near Ulley.

Phil Dyke, development director of Banks Renewables, said: “Penny Hill will provide power for up to 10,000 homes, which is equivalent to 10 per cent of all the homes in Rotherham.” Five hundred letters of objection, as well as a petition bearing 1,792 signatures, were submitted in opposition to plans, provisionally approved in May.
