Winona County commissioners Tuesday approved a conditional-use permit allowing James Jarvis to put back up a wind turbine county officials made him take down in May.
Jarvis was forced to take down the 134-foot-tall turbine at 29049 Fremont Store Road after county staff found he erected the structure without obtaining permits.
The turbine’s height also exceeded the county’s 35-foot limit, necessitating a variance – which was denied in large part because the structure was already standing.
But after discussions with county staff, the county planning commission approved Jarvis’s request for a conditional-use permit last month. The request was then passed on to the county board.
