Wind farm is rejected for the second time this year

John O'Groat Journal and Caithness Courier, www.johnogroat-journal.co.uk 10 December 2010

A planned wind farm development in Caithness has been rejected for the second time this year. Earlier this week the Highland Council’s planning review body refused to overturn the planning committee’s original decision.

The local authority declined planning permission to Gartocharn-based wind farm developer Lomond Energy for two 60m tall turbines at Olgrinmore Moss, near Scotscalder back in May, and on Wednesday the members of the review body voted 3-2 to refuse planning permission again.

Lomond Energy director Steve Macken said yesterday: “We are disappointed to hear that the Highland Council have refused our Notice of Review. We believe the vote was very close and are currently reviewing our future options for the site and will continue our dialogue with the council.”

The firm claimed that the development would provide enough green energy to power 2500 homes in addition to providing jobs and £10,000 per annum for local projects.
