500 land leases signed for massive South Plains wind farm

A Norwegian developer and its West Texas Partner company have signed leases with 500 land owners in Parmer County, northwest of Lubbock. It’s part of a massive wind farm called Mariah.

According to a website called rechargenews .com the long-term plan is make Mariah a 10 gigawatt facility. That’s enough to power a million homes.

The first phase is only 200 mega watts and that’s scheduled for completion in 2013. According to the website for Scandia Wind Southwest, it will be the world’s largest wind energy project.
