Mason County airport does not hinder wind farm progress

9&10 News, www.9and10news.com 30 November 2010

Wind turbines are popping up across Northern Michigan, and there’s a potential wind farm that’s one step closer to moving forward in Mason County.

Consumer’s Energy hopes to build a wind farm just south of the Mason County Airport, made up of 56 turbines.

Nearly 75% of them exceed the height requirements because they are so close to the airport.

After hours of presentations and review, the Mason County Zoning Board unanimously voted to grant consumer’s all 46 variances they requested.

Consumer’s Energy now needs to submit an application to the zoning board for special land use.

9&10’s Kelly Davis and photojournalist Corey Petee went to the meeting and have more details on the progress.
