Wind turbines are not panacea for energy woes

Cape Cod Times, www.capecodonline.com 26 November 2010

ARC’s proposed turbine would be located on Chapin Beach road in Dennis, but closer to the homes in Yarmouthport than to the homes in Dennis. It would be right across from Gray’s Beach.

The boardwalk at Gray’s Beach is a popular spot for residents and tourists to watch the sunset. One of the most beautiful and tranquil places on the Cape would be marred.

There are questions about whether this turbine would solve ARC’s energy and financial problems. There is much debate on how much less carbon dioxide would be emitted into the atmosphere in the USA if we erect thousands of turbines. Denmark, the country with the most wind farms, has one of the highest costs for electricity and is turning against wind turbines. Turbine blades are spinning slower and slower as time passes.

Turbine developers are in it for the quick money, which is being made available by people in government who aren’t thinking smart. The developers could hardly care about health issues, environmental issues or your quality of life. The people of Wellfleet and Bourne saw through all this and acted smart. It’s time we all do the same.
