Residents fighting an expensive battle to stop two wind farms being built near their homes raised around £2,000 for their cause and charity from a 12-mile sponsored walk.

Around 30 Huntspill Wind Farm Group members including two on horseback participated on Sunday, November 21, to raise funds to fight the plans and protest against the wind farms’ planned locations.

Spokeswoman Julie Trott said: “The walk’s aim was to link all of the villages in the common cause and to promote awareness of the proposals that will affect the lives of many who live in the area.”

The trek went from West Huntspill to Pawlett, Puriton, Woolavington and East Huntspill, before returning to the start via New Road, to show how close the proposed builds will be to homes.

Some of the cash raised will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Ecotricity proposes five turbines at Black Ditch, West Huntspill, and EDF nine at Withy Grove, East Huntspill.
