The Planning Board vote concerning an additional wind turbine on Keith Mann’s cranberry farm in South Plymouth ended in a 2-2 tie. If approved, this turbine would have brought the total to four proposed on the property. Planning board members Marc Garrett and Paul McAlduff voted in favor; Bill Wennerberg and Larry Rosenblum voted against. Tim Grande was not present.
An equal number of people spoke for and against, but the majority of those in favor were from neighboring towns.
Annette Herbst, an abutter, said, “I will be looking at these wind turbines, but I’m okay with that. I think I’ll get used to it. I feel that people really at this point are mostly afraid of what they don’t know.”
Tom Booth, also a neighbor, fears for the quality of life.
“I’m opposed to the fact that if they’re too close to neighborhood residences that they could have impacts on the persons quality of life when they’re supposed to be in their homes enjoying themselves.”
The board’s tie vote essentially means no recommendation to the ZBA. Although the ZBA approved three other wind turbines on the Mann property, two appeals have been made on that ruling.
