The Quebec government says a decision by the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners in the United States to recognize that hydroelectric power can be a “valuable and clean” renewable energy resource is an historic moment that could lead to greater power exports from the province to the United States. At its annual meeting in Atlanta, the group urged lawmakers to give “due consideration” to the potential value of hydro power when they make energy policy. “This resolution lends weight to our efforts to show that our power can contribute both to meeting the energy security needs of the United States and also to reduce green house gas emissions,” Quebec Natural Resources Minister Nathalie Normandeau said.
