Developers to expand Seigneurie de Beaupré wind farm

Montreal Gazette, www.montrealgazette.com 19 November 2010

Montreal renewable energy developer Boralex Inc. and Gaz Métro LP, the Quebec natural gas distributor, said Friday they will expand the future capacity of the Seigneurie de Beaupré wind farm project near Quebec City to 340 MW by buying a 69MW supply contract from Kruger Énergie Bas-St. Laurent. The price was not disclosed.

The Kruger contract to supply power to Hydro-Québec from a wind farm near Mont Joli, near Matane, to Hydro-Québec came up for sale after certain conditions could not be met. Kruger Énergie is part of the Kruger paper, packaging and tissue group.

The contract-transfer deal means Boralex-Gaz Métro can create as third wind farm at the Seigneurie – the land is owned by the Séminaire de Québec. At 340MW, it will the province’s largest wind power supplier to Hydro-Québec.

Preliminary construction work has started on the Seigneurie’s first wind farm and commissioning of the whole project is due in 2014-2015. Certain provincial authorizations are expected and agreements covering turbine supply, the civil and electrical engineering and financing have yet to be finalized.
