Wind farm opponent makes noise over turbines

ABC News, www.abc.net.au 17 November 2010

An anti-wind farm campaigner says his suspicions about the Waubra wind farm have been vindicated through the sale of two properties to the farm’s operator.

Acciona Energy bought the properties during recent noise testing.

The nearby turbines will operate in noise reduced mode until the houses are vacated.

Noel Dean owns a property near the wind farm and says the noise from the turbines made him sick.

He says the switch to noise reduced mode proves the turbines are too loud.

“When we spoke to them in June they didn’t know what reduced noise mode was, they didn’t know where the towers were, so they’ve suddenly discovered that there’s noise reduction mode there,” he said.

“There’s 50 turbines out of 128 in noise reduction mode – if they’ve got to be in noise reduction mode they should not have been put there in the first place, that’s my opinion.”
