Kansas legislative panel asking whether developing wind farms could affect military training

Associated Press, www.fox4kc.com 16 November 2010

Some Kansas legislators are asking whether the development of wind farms could affect training at military bases.

The Legislature’s Joint Committee on Kansas Security has placed the topic on its agenda for a meeting Nov. 22.

The committee plans to hear testimony from an attorney for the assistant Army secretary’s office in Kansas City, Mo.

The Flint Hills are considered among the best places in Kansas for wind farms because of existing power transmission lines.

The Army’s Fort Riley is in the Flint Hills, outside Junction City. Also, McConnell Air Force Base, near Wichita, and the Great Plains Joint Training Center, outside Salina, are near the Flint Hills.
