Selby MP Nigel Adams steps up wind turbines campaign

Selby’s MP Nigel Adams is continuing his wind turbines campaign by sponsoring a proposed law to restrict their construction close to people’s homes.
MPs will first hear details of the Onshore Wind Turbines (Promixity of Habitation) Bill on Wednesday.
If it becomes law, the Bill would enable local planning authorities to specify the minimum distances in their area between wind turbines and the nearest occupied building.
Mr Adams said: “I am hoping that the Government will take onboard our suggestion to give local councils the powers to decide on appropriate proximity distances of onshore wind farms in their respective areas. The Bill fits in extremely well with the Coalition’s localism agenda and we are hopeful that our plans will get a fair hearing.”
The Selby and Ainsty MP raised the issue of wind turbines in his maiden speech in the House of Commons in June. Before his election, he called on the then Selby MP, John Grogan, to back a Bill to restrict their construction near people’s homes, but it never became law.
Wednesday’s Bill is the second closely connected with Mr Adams. In June, his own Private Member’s Bill aimed at protecting services in local communities received its first reading. Its second reading is scheduled for January.
