A decision about plans for a wind farm at Broughton Lodge, near Broughton Moor, was deferred by Allerdale councillors because of an error in a council report.
Manchester company Peel Energy wants to erect three 410ft turbines, but members of Allerdale council’s development panel appeared ready to reject the plans at a meeting on Tuesday.
They learned, however, that Allerdale council’s planning department was recommending deferral of any decision instead because of a mistake spotted in the official planning report.
The error was only revealed after councillors had debated the application for two hours and objectors and the company had presented their views.
The original report mistakenly said the proposed development would not have an adverse and harmful impact on neighbouring houses.
It is understood that if councillors had based their decision on incorrect information then Allerdale council would have been open to legal problems.
