Wind farm building work delayed

Construction of a controversial proposed wind farm will not go ahead until next year, but developers say it is still on track.

The development at Earls Hall Farm, off St Johns Road, Clacton, was approved last year.

Despite receiving permission to go ahead with building, no work has yet started on the site.

Mark Fleming, of Npower, said: “Since receiving planning permission, we have been working closely with statutory consultees and the local authority to discharge planning consent conditions.

“This is a very typical process, which any newly approved wind farm goes through.

“In addition, over the last 12 months, we have started a procurement process to secure turbines and components ready for construction. We currently expect construction will start during Summer 2011.

“As we move into construction, we will carry out a local consultation exercise to ensure we meet the needs of the local communities.

The introduction of the wind farm will bring with it an annual community benefit package, which will generate funds for the community.

“The fund will be for the benefit of the community neighbouring the new wind farm.”

The lack of action so far will delight protesters, who were furious at the decision to allow the development to go ahead.

Tendring Council’s planning committee voted unanimously against the installation of the giant turbines.

However, Npower appealed and the committee’s decision was overturned by planning inspector Paul Griffith in November 2009.

The wind farm was strongly opposed by a group lead by David Harrington on noise and visual grounds.
