A Spanish judge rejected a challenge by environmentalists to wind farms planned in the north, saying “there exists a real public interest” in building low-emissions power plants, El Diario Montanes reported, citing the ruling.
Judge Teresa Marijuan denied a request to suspend the tender process for the projects in the northern region of Cantabria made in a lawsuit by the environmental group Arca, the newspaper reported.
The bidding to construct 1,400 megawatts of power capacity – – larger than the average nuclear reactor being built today – wouldn’t bring irreparable damage to the environment, the Cantabria-based judge said, according to the report.
