Protestors give cash for turbine opposition

A protest group has pledged £20,000 to hire a top barrister if plans for wind turbines close to a hamlet near Holsworthy go ahead.
The STOPIT campaigners from Meddon are determined to oppose plans for six 126m high turbines proposed for fields at Harbour Cross.
STOPIT secretary Peter Austin said: “Out of 28 houses in the hamlet 31 residents came to out latest meeting. There were apologies from those who couldn’t come, so we are unanimous in our opposition – everyone also donated to the fighting fund.”
The protestors have also contributed to a war chest to pay for day-to-day expenses in their campaign. At the meeting in Meddon village hall it also became apparent the protest against the proposed wind farm in the valley next to the hamlet was gathering wider support.
Retired RAF helicopter pilot Mr Austin said: “We have been contacted by people from the Hartland forest area and other isolated householders and farmers say they would like to become involved.”
The former Wing Commander said: “The company behind the turbine proposals here is called Wind Venture. They are also planning a turbine development in East Anglia.”
A committee to head the campaign was also elected and the date for their first meeting, December 3, was set.
