Shire to air wind farm woes to Madden

ABC News, www.abc.net.au 4 November 2010

The Moorabool Shire will continue its opposition to a Victorian Government decision to approve two wind farms there.

The Government approved the farms earlier this week and one of them includes 107 turbines.

Mayor Pat Toohey says the council voted unanimously last night to write to Planning Minister Justin Madden to express its disappointment.

He says the shire’s residents have concerns about the farms which the State Government did not take into account.

“Certainly the close proximity to people’s homes, the close proximity to people’s boundaries, you can build a wind farm under these conditions five metres from a person’s boundary and a thousand metres from a person’s home now, that’s far too close and the community have articulated their concerns and they’ve not been listened to,” he said.
