Sedgwick enacts wind turbine moratorium

November 4, 2010, by Jonathan Thomas, penobscotbaypress.com

Sedgwick voters enacted a moratorium ordinance for wind turbines by a 347 to 243 referendum vote during the November 2 general election.

As provided for under Maine law, the moratorium would last for 180 days, giving time for the town to prepare and enact an ordinance regulating the turbines.

A hearing on the moratorium ordinances was held on October 7. The committee that would draft the ordinance had not yet been named at press time.

Regulations likely to be considered by the committee for inclusion in an ordinance are: setbacks, maximum noise level, and a provision to guarantee funding for removal of a turbine when it is no longer in use.
